Today significant portions of Africa are still experiencing war, oppression, corruption and tribalism. In some cases these issues can be traced to leaders who lack integrity and concern for their people.
But Africa also boasts some of the greatest Christian Leaders of recent times. Africa needs more of these godly men and women who can help chart a new, God given, course into the future for their people. If this is to become a reality, Training and Development Programmes are essential. AE's response to this desperate need has been consolidated under the banner of the Michael Cassidy-led
AFRICAN ENTERPRISE LEADERSHIP TRAINING CENTRE and the BARNABAS PROGRAMME
The African Enterprise Leadership Training Centre (AELTC) in Pietermaritzburg was formally launched in 2007 to equip church and marketplace leaders to help transform Africa. The goal of the centre, through collaboration with top learning institutions throughout the world is to provide high quality, low cost training to Africa's established and emerging leaders.
The AELTC provides both on-site and distance-learning opportunities.
The Training Programmes cover a wide range of disciplines including; leadership, management, accountability, community development, theology, reconciliation and peace-making, urban mission, evangelism, youth ministry and discipleship.
Courses are designed so that Christians employed full-time in ministry or in the Marketplace can improve their skills and capacities in sessions of intensive or weekend instruction. The AELTC's current emphases include biblical instruction of pastors from African independent churches, a Master Trainer programme based on the exponential church-growth methods employed by churches in India, and Youth Adventure Camp, to invest in high school and university-age students. In order to impact Christians who most need the training, the AELTC offers subsidies to many pastors and laypeople, who have little income.
Since 2010, Michael Cassidy has been developing the Barnabas Programme - mentoring young people in their spiritual growth and leadership capacities. The Barnabas Programme is now in many cities of South Africa.
